MAURA RIEMAN & JOHN FERGUSON
DARK MOTHER SERIES & HELL IN A HANDBASKET
OPENING RECEPTION 6-10PM 3636 CHESTNUT, DENVER CO
SHOW RUNS THROUGH OCT 19TH
Ironton Gallery is proud to kick off the Fall Arts Season by hosting sculptors John Ferguson and Maura Rieman September though October. While taking different approaches to their art, their works compliment each other and provide an additional contrast between male and female, steel and ceramics.
Ferguson’s “Hell in a Hand Basket” is based on a slightly tongue–in-cheek discussion of the various/numerous possibilities to the end of the world. The works are primarily in steel, with contrasting materials. Ferguson’s awareness of design and use of dissimilar materials creates a cohesive and interesting point of view.
John Ferguson, a seasoned Ironton sculptor, has shown in numerous venues in Colorado as well as New Mexico, Nevada, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas and Florida. www.FDSculpture.com
Maura Rieman is a teacher and an award winning artist whose “Dark Mother Series” is an abstract sculptural exploration of our relationships with the sources of “nurture” in our lives and selves. Her groupings of large, dark, and seemingly ominous ceramic sculptural forms are balanced with red underlings that tell a story. From protective to destructive, from fostering to debilitating, this series probes the places in between what we think we know about mothering/nurturing and what we can know. Maura Rieman has lived in Boulder County for over 25 years. She has worked as an artist in Wales UK and is in private collections in Spain, Wales, England and Japan. http://www.MOZEFIRE.com
